ABOUT

Small tools for the factory floor

OffcutBench is a free utility from SmartFACT: Smart Factory using AI, operated by Obsidian Black Ltd. It helps one person keep track of the straight offcuts on one rack: label each piece, find one long enough before cutting new stock and record what was used, without setting up another system.

It is useful on its own. Setting up the rack, labels, searches, recording cuts, saving and every download are free, with no account, trial or email address required. The tool does not call an AI service: lengths, searches and labels are ordinary, predictable software.

What it is, and is not

OffcutBench records what you tell it: each piece's material, measured length and measuring uncertainty, condition, batch and bin, and what happened to it. It is not a stock system, a reservation system or a cutting optimiser. It handles straight lengths only, with no sheets, nesting or saw control, and a search never reserves or changes a piece. One person works on one rack at a time, on one device. The default cut allowances are starting values, not a recommendation for your machinery, and a label or report shows what was recorded, not proof that a piece is on the rack.

The workbench

ScannerBench shows exactly what a keyboard scanner sends. PrintBench checks that a printer reproduces a known PDF at the right size. CardBench creates 100 × 50 mm bin and rack cards. CountBench counts stock by location and compares it with a stock file. BarcodeBench explains what a barcode contains, including GS1 data and check digits. ManifestBench checks scanned carton or pallet IDs against a manifest. CycleBench times work cycles and changeovers on one phone. FeedBench inspects, maps and compares factory CSV and JSON files. FindBench finds a scanned code's description and locations in your own CSV file. MatchBench checks whether a scanned label matches a reference scan. TagBench makes a review tag from a scan and keeps a review list. TraceBench follows a lot or serial number through your own CSV exports, with the row behind every link. When the same job repeats every day, the SmartFACT services below automate it with rules you describe in plain English.

Help and support

The privacy notice explains what OffcutBench keeps and where. OffcutBench has no problem-report button: to report a defect or ask for help, use the SmartFACT support form, and to suggest an improvement, use the feedback form. Help with the tool is free; there is no guaranteed response time, and bespoke integration work is a separate paid service.
